(Moncton, N.B.) - The IWK Health Centre Foundation, K 94.5 FM, and 103.9 MAX FM wish to thank Greater Moncton donors for helping to raise $68,696.63 at the IWK Radiothon on February 25 and 26, 2010.
“We are grateful to the people of Greater Moncton and our amazing radio station friends at K 94.5 FM and 103.9 MAX FM for generously supporting specialized care at the IWK,” says Dionne Izzard, Manager of Annual Giving for the IWK Foundation. “We also owe a huge thank you to the IWK patients and families from the Greater Moncton area who shared their powerful stories, and touched all of our hearts in the process.”
K 94.5 FM and 103.9 MAX FM personalities took to the airwaves for 29 hours over two days, broadcasting live from Champlain Place.
“We are so proud and excited to be doing our part to help improve care for the patients and families who rely on the IWK,” says Mike Storr, Operations Manager of K 94.5 FM and 103.9 MAX FM. “Our listeners are awesome and our on-air team has had an amazing and meaningful experience. We are already looking forward to next year.”
In addition to acquiring 101 new donors including 40 new members of the IWK Superstars Club, the IWK Radiothon raised funds for the Child Life program, Spiritual Care and critically-needed equipment, including SMART pumps, a Hydraulic Stretcher for the IWK’s Hematology and Oncology Outpatient Clinic and a Xeon Light Source needed for the IWK’s general surgery operating suite.
The IWK Radiothon also encouraged people in Moncton to sign up for the IWK Change Bandits campaign. Led by IWK patient Victoria Greenwood, the Change Bandits collected big and small change from friends, family, neighbours, and co-workers to raise $15,634.67 to help purchase a patient monitor for the Pediatric Medical Unit at the IWK.
Victoria loved being the change bandit hero this year. Born with a heart defect, she went into cardiac failure twice in the first 48 hours of her life and wasn’t supposed to make it. But, she did and her family credits the IWK.
Change Bandits was sponsored by Champlain Place. The Radiothon was sponsored by Bell Aliant. A special thanks to partners Children’s Miracle Network, Foresters and Unity Life.
