Astral Media's National Day
of Caring for Kids Radiothon
28 Cities Involved, 50 Radio Stations, 15 Hospitals across Canada.
(Halifax, N.S.) – Listeners of eight Astral Media radio stations in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick pledged more than $60,000 to help fund special equipment and programs for the IWK Health Centre when the 12-hour Astral Media’s National Day of Caring for Kids Radiothon wrapped up Thursday evening.
The Maritime Astral stations raised $10,000 more than the previous year, and welcomed 113 IWK Superstars: a group of generous donors who give a monthly donation of at least $15. Several new IWK Superstars pledged $50 a month and one donor made a one-time gift of $1,500.
“It was an incredible broadcast and the generosity of Maritimers shone through in a big way,” said Brad Jacobs, Vice President of the IWK Health Centre Foundation. “It’s clear everyone involved is passionate about supporting children, mothers and families cared for by the IWK each year.”
The funds raised during the Radiothon will help purchase vital pieces of equipment like Smart Pumps that enhance patient safety by alerting caregivers if the dose, rate or concentration of intravenous medicine differs from recommended limits. The funds raised will also support special programs at the IWK like Child Life, Spiritual Health and Bilingual Services and fund leading-edge research initiatives.
Astral Media's National Day of Caring for Kids Radiothon was a country-wide initiative involving more than 60 stations from coast to coast. Here in the Maritimes, the radiothon was broadcast live in support of the IWK on the following stations:
