What we are busting a move for in 2013

Bust a Move support has allowed so much to be accomplished with the development of a Breast Health Centre. Thanks to the enthusiasm of our participants and the generosity of our donors and sponsors, over $2 million has been raised for the Centre. More women are being screened and wait times for surgery have been drastically reduced. In fact, the Centre is actually becoming a reality with construction phases beginning in late 2012 and patients being seen in mid 2013.

This is cause to celebrate but there is still more to do. With funds raised from Bust a Move 2013, the next phase of the Centre will see two vital clinics moving into the space - high risk genetics and re-construction.

Some women are deemed as high risk candidates for breast cancer due to their family history with the disease. Imagine how these women go through life. Not wondering if but waiting for when they will be diagnosed with breast cancer. The high risk genetics clinic screens these women for the disease, giving them the best chance possible at beating the odds.

On the other end of the spectrum are the women who have had a single or double mastectomy and have opted for re-constructive surgery. Imagine how nice it would be to shorten the wait time for these women to have this important surgery and critical step in the road to recovery and survivorship. These women have already been through enough; they shouldn't need to wait for extended periods of time to complete their care journey.

Having these two clinics incorporated into the Centre means increased collaboration and efficiency, giving patients and their families a world-class care facility.

Registration is now open for this year’s Bust a Move taking place on Saturday, March 23, 2013. Donations and registration can be done online at www.bustamove.ca.
