Thanks to donor like you, there continues to be much to celebrate at the IWK Health Centre. The one hundred percent donor-funded NICU North has been attracting international attention and talent – including Dr. Jon Dorling.
Dr. Dorling, an Academic Neonatologist from Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust in Nottingham, England, is the new Head of the Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at the IWK Health Centre and Dalhousie University.
The new NICU is undoubtedly one of the reasons I am here." ~ Dr. Jon Dorling
When Dr. Dorling first began looking at new positions in Canada, the IWK quickly became his top choice after he saw the newly redeveloped NICU North and plans for the entire NICU project. He was impressed by the level of dedication and community support that goes into creating something so innovative.
Since starting in mid-July, Dr. Dorling has experienced what makes the IWK so special. “There’s a real sense of community here at the IWK with a focus on family,” he says. “The care and consideration people have for one another is reflected in the generosity of the donors.”
In addition to leading the NICU and Perinatal team, Dr. Dorling will be involved in running a variety of clinical trials and engaging families and staff on feedback about the new, integrated units. “Family Integrated Care is a focus now and in the future. We need to make the best of our wonderful new facility and share our learning to lead that practice both here and elsewhere.”
