The IWK is changing the way care is provided to the most critically ill and vulnerable patients — patients like twins, Sullivan and Duncan of Clyde River, PEI.
With generous donors like you by our side, a three-phased Critical Care Redevelopment Project is underway — transforming the neonatal (NICU) and pediatric intensive care units (PICU).
The twins were born 12 weeks early and required the specialized care of the IWK’s NICU.
For more than two months, at the end of each day, Lori and Thomas, the twins’ parents said goodnight to their boys. Then, they left the IWK’s NICU to stay at a hotel or with friends or family.
Lori said, “It was heartbreaking to have to leave them every night.”
On April 11, Sullivan was the first patient to move into NICU North — a world-leading, state-of-the-art unit with 19 private rooms.
That night, for the first time, Lori, Thomas, Duncan and Sullivan stayed together as a family – a truly life-changing experience!
Please be part of something truly extraordinary – the Critical Care Redevelopment Project at the IWK! Your gift will directly impact critical care for the most vulnerable patients at the IWK for generations to come. Thank you!
