Jeremy Ingham Cancer Research Trust

On Wednesday, November 29th, Jeremy Ingham, a remarkable 22 year old who is passionate about scientific research and finding a cure for cancer, made a personal gift to the IWK Foundation to establish the Jeremy Ingham Cancer Research Trust. Jeremy’s sole purpose for establishing the trust is to enable undergraduate science students the opportunity to apply for a studentship in research so they are afforded the opportunity to gain experience and exposure to research during their undergraduate degree.

The Jeremy Ingham Cancer Research Award will be awarded to a top undergraduate student in Atlantic Canada engaged in cancer research and fulfilling Jeremy’s dream of improving the outcome for patients and particularly children and young adults with cancer. The Beatrice Hunter Cancer Research Institute will manage the call for applications and scientific vetting of the studentship every year.

"Jeremy was diagnosed with a rare bone tumour in his leg called dedifferentiated chondrosarcoma at the age of 17. He underwent treatment with surgery and chemotherapy. His disease came back in his leg and then in his lungs and did not respond to further treatment. Jeremy is incredibly brave, ambitious and visionary. As an undergraduate student, he loved being engaged in science and swimming competitively. He graduated with an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from Acadia University in a moving and special ceremony on a crisp, clear fall day in October 2017. When he realized that he would not be able to realize his goals of becoming a physician and a cancer researcher, he passionately set out to establish this award so that other undergraduate students could pursue cancer research and follow in his footsteps.”
