9th Annual K94.5 FM & 103.9 MAX FM Cares for Kids IWK Radiothon raises $86,392.20
Moncton, NB – The Greater Moncton community once again showed an outpouring of support for the patients and families who rely on care at the IWK, generously donating $86,392.90 during the 9th annual K94.5 FM & 103.9 MAX FM Cares for Kids IWK Radiothon, held at CF Champlain on Friday.
“Today, the Greater Moncton community demonstrated their love and support of the IWK,” said Jennifer Gillivan, President & CEO, IWK Foundation. “IWK Radiothon donors can feel confident that their gifts go to support the most urgent care needs of the IWK which could include the purchase of priority equipment and the funding of research, programs and new facilities.
This year, the IWK Radiothon raised funds to help support the purchase of new orthopedic examination tables for the IWK’s Orthopedic Clinic as well as the most urgent priority needs of the IWK Health Centre – like the equipment that helped Lilianne Savoie breathe during her four surgeries.
After experiencing difficulty learning to walk, two-year old Lilianne was diagnosed with developmental dysplasia of the hip, a condition where the hip joint has not formed properly and may easily dislocate. Her family learned she would require multiple surgeries, with the first one needed immediately. Today, Lilianne is nine years old. Throughout her many visits to the IWK, Lilianne has benefited greatly from donor generosity. Lilianne’s inspiring story was shared as part of K94.5 FM and 103.9 MAX FM’s Radiothon broadcasts.
This year’s IWK Change Challenge, a community-based fundraising program in support of the Radiothon led by patient hero Mya Williamson and sponsored by Atlantic Superstore, was also a huge success, raising $17,435.93.
Donations can still be made to the IWK Radiothon by calling 1-800-595-2266 or by visiting www.iwkfoundation.org/moncton.
