Halifax, NS - Listeners of eight Bell Media radio stations in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick were inspired to make a difference to the patients and families who rely on care at the IWK, donating $73,640 during the 6th Annual IWK Radiothon on February 6, 2015.
“Every year, we are overwhelmed with the generosity of the listeners in these eight markets and their commitment to helping children at the IWK,” says Jennifer Gillivan, President & CEO, IWK Foundation. “Every donation that our community makes ensures that patients and families in our region have access to the specialized care they need right here in the Maritimes. To our many donors, the teams at these radio stations and our sponsors, thank you for continuing to make a difference.”
IWK Radiothons raise funds to support the most urgent priority needs of the IWK Health Centre, which could include advanced technology, research, improved facilities and up-to-date equipment. This directly benefits patients like 13-year-old Caden Flynn.
Caden visits the IWK to receive treatment for cerebral palsy. He recently underwent an extensive surgery to correct ligaments in his legs and with the support of a walker, he is recovering well and slowly getting back to doing what he loves – playing sports.
Caden’s story was shared as part this one-day initiative, which was broadcasted live on the following stations:
Big Dog 100.9 FM, Truro, NS
Cat Country 99.5 FM, Truro, NS
MAX 104.9 FM, Bathurst, NB
K93 FM, Grand Falls, NB
CJ 104 FM, Woodstock, NB
FOX 105 FM, Fredericton, NB
KHJ 1260 AM, Fredericton, NB
Capital 106.9 FM, Fredericton, NB
