November 28, 2014

Jennifer Gillivan awarded out of a record-breaking 4,000 nominees

Halifax, NS – The IWK Foundation is honoured to announce that President & CEO Jennifer Gillivan is the recipient of the 2014 Charitable Leadership Award, announced this week at the RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards Gala in Toronto, Ontario. Presented by Women of Influence, the prestigious awards recognize the country’s leading female entrepreneurs who have made impressive and substantial contributions to the local, Canadian or global economy.

“I’m very passionate about supporting and uplifting women. I believe that as a society when we foster women to be all that they can be, that’s when magic happens. That’s why I’m incredibly humbled to be recognized with this award among a group of such outstanding leaders,” said Gillivan. “I truly believe this award is not mine alone – I’m surrounded by a community of donors, staff, volunteers and supporters who believe that Maritime families deserve the very best care in the world. That’s what drives me in my role at the IWK Foundation every day and we’re working together to achieve this vision.”

Gillivan was one of six recipients celebrated at this year’s awards gala on November 26, following a record-breaking 4,000 nominees from across the country. The Charitable Leadership Award recognizes a female entrepreneur that is an exceptional leader of a not-for-profit or charitable organization. Finalists have garnered extraordinary support from the community by being champions for philanthropy and volunteerism in Canada, and for assisting in social change and improving the quality of lives of others.

“The diversity and astounding accomplishments of this year’s award winners raises the bar for entrepreneurship in Canada,” said Carolyn Lawrence, president and CEO, Women of Influence Inc. “In celebrating their impact and success through the RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards, we are shining the light on these impressive role models to inspire new generations of female innovators, leaders and entrepreneurs.”

“RBC is proud to support Canadian women entrepreneurs like Jennifer who are not only contributing to the creation of jobs and the prosperity of our economy but are also bringing their passion to life and excelling,” said Andrea Bolger, executive vice president, Business Financial Services, RBC Royal Bank. “These annual awards enable us to showcase these remarkably outstanding, bold and successful women entrepreneurs.”
