Halifax, NS - Maritimers have come together once again in support of the IWK, pledging a record-breaking $6,270,346.07 during the 31st annual IWK Telethon for Children on CTV. The 31st Telethon was broadcast live from the IWK Health Centre in Halifax and locations in Sydney, Saint John and Charlottetown.
“This weekend would not have been possible without the support of our donors and volunteers from all three Maritime Provinces, who give their time and hearts to this cause,” says Jennifer Gillivan, President & CEO, IWK Foundation. “And of course, our broadcast partner, CTV, went above and beyond and we could not have done this without them.”
Year after year the Maritime community comes together to support the IWK and this support has a profound effect on the level of health care excellence available right here in our region.
“This was my first Telethon and it was an amazing experience,” says Tracy Kitch, President & CEO, IWK Health Centre. “Thanks to the generosity of Maritime donors, this year’s Telethon allows us to purchase urgently needed, state-of-the-art equipment for the Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Units at the IWK.”
This priority equipment includes new Bili-Blankets to help treat newborn jaundice through phototherapy and a special BIS Monitor that measures a patient’s level of consciousness which helps make the response to sedatives and anesthesia more predictable.
The IWK Telethon is an important annual tradition that unites the people of the Maritimes through their passion for the IWK. As the IWK’s largest annual fundraiser, funds raised from Telethon support the most urgent priority care needs of the IWK Health Centre. The IWK Telethon for Children on CTV is one of the longest running marathon broadcasts in North America.
