Halifax, NS – As part of its 100th anniversary celebration O’Regan’s announced today it is donating $100,000 to the redevelopment of the IWK Health Centre’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Kathleen O’Regan and Sean O’Regan presented a cheque to Tracy Kitch, IWK President & CEO, on CTV Morning Live this morning.
“I can speak from personal experience to the quality of care the NICU provides and this redevelopment will make it among the best in Canada.” said Kathleen O’Regan, VP Human Resources at O’Regans. “We are thrilled to support the IWK’s commitment to providing state-of-the-art care to Maritime families.”
2015 marks 100 years since S.E. O’Regan started in the automotive business in Parrsboro, Nova Scotia. His sons, Paul and Stephen, grew up in the business. They would later grow a small used car operation in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia to one of the leading automotive groups in Canada, now run by third generation O’Regans, Sean, Patrick and Tim who are joined by Kathleen, VP of HR and Mary Ellen, Sales Manager.
The O’Regans have always believed that you are only as strong as the community you live and grow in. Generations of Nova Scotians have come through the IWK and the NICU redevelopment will ensure gold standard facilities and care for the next generation.
“The O’Regan family is known for its dedication to community building and is no stranger to the IWK,” said Jennifer Gillivan, President & CEO of the IWK Foundation. “We’re honoured and grateful to receive this generous gift which will help bring best-in-class care to some of the Maritimes’ tiniest and sickest patients.”
“The NICU redevelopment will be a state-of-the-art facility based on some of the leading best practice models from around the globe,” said Tracy Kitch, President & CEO, IWK Health Centre. “With thanks to donors like O’Regan’s, we will soon have a Neonatal Unit that matches our talented staff and expertise within our health centre.”
The NICU redevelopment will convert the current open-concept area to private rooms, with sleeping space and private washrooms for parents. This will allow care that best supports newborn development: encouraging and accommodating skin-to-skin contact, infant-parent bonding and breastfeeding with the ability to control noise and lighting. All of these elements help infants thrive and ensure the best possible physical, mental and emotional development.
