Halifax, NS - President’s Choice® Children’s Charity is proud to announce the donation of an additional $200,000 to support the IWK Health Centre’s new adaptive living kitchen; a critical initiative that cultivates independence and accessibility for children.
“President’s Choice® Children’s Charity is committed to helping kids across Canada live to their full potential,” said Colin Nicolle, Vice President, Pricing & Promotion, Loblaw Atlantic, and a President’s Choice® Children’s Charity Board Member. “Our focus is supporting children with disabilities and fighting childhood hunger. Also, for over 25 years, our colleagues at Atlantic Superstore have supported the IWK through fundraising initiatives throughout the Maritimes.”
The IWK adaptive living kitchen is part of the redevelopment of rehabilitation services at the hospital. The kitchen will serve as an assessment, intervention and education space related to eating, communicating, socializing, menu planning, budget management, as well as meal preparation and clean-up. In addition, it will be an exemplar for accessible design options. President’s Choice® Children’s Charity made its first $200,000 gift to the same project in October of 2013, making its contribution to date a generous $400,000.
“The rehabilitation program at the IWK is unique in Atlantic Canada and the redevelopment of this area marks an important step towards our vision of providing the best care,” said Tracy Kitch, President & CEO, IWK Health Centre. “We are extremely grateful to President’s Choice® Children’s Charity for recognizing the value of providing independence and accessibility to children so they can make healthy eating choices throughout their lives.”
The adaptive living kitchen is one component of the redevelopment of the entire rehabilitation services area at the IWK, which will bring many disciplines together for the first time. Construction of the new rehabilitation services area began in the spring of 2014 and will be completed in the summer of 2015.
