Moncton, NS - Listeners of the 6th annual K 94-5 FM & 103.9 MAX FM Cares for Kids IWK Radiothon were inspired to make a difference to the patients and families who rely on care at the IWK, generously donating $115,957.64 during the event at Champlain Place on February 19 and 20, 2015.
"Each year, we are overwhelmed with the generosity of K 94-5 and 103.9 MAX FM listeners and their commitment to helping children at the IWK,” says Jennifer Gillivan, President & CEO, IWK Foundation. “Every donation that our community makes goes towards ensuring the patients and families in our region have access to the specialized care they need, right here in the Maritimes. To our many donors, the teams at these radio stations and our sponsors, thank you for continuing to make a difference.”
IWK Radiothons raise funds to support the most urgent priority needs of the IWK Health Centre, which could include advanced technology, research, improved facilities and up-to-date equipment. This directly benefits patients like four-year-old Damon Shea Cassie of Riverview.
Damon was first diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia two years ago. He experienced a relapse this past fall and will require a bone marrow transplant in the near future. Despite the challenges he’s faced, Damon continues to be a happy and energetic little boy. This has been made possible through the support of his friends and family as well as his care teams both at the IWK and locally in Moncton that are there for him every step of the way. Damon’s story was shared as part of K 94-5 FM and 103.9 MAX FM’s Radiothon broadcasts.
This year’s IWK Change Challenge, a community-based fundraising program in support of the Radiothon, was also a huge success, raising an impressive $10,674.35.
Donations can still be made to the IWK Radiothon by calling 1-800-595-2266 or by visiting www.iwkfoundation.org/moncton.
