Halifax, NS – Listeners of 10 Bell Media owned radio stations in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick came together once again in support of patients and families who rely on care at the IWK, generously donating $276,308 during the annual IWK Radiothon today.
Participating stations included C100 FM and 101.3 Virgin Radio in Halifax; Big Dog 100.9 FM and Cat Country 99.5 FM in Truro; FOX 105 FM, Capital 106.9 FM and KHJ 1260 AM in Fredericton; MAX 104.9 FM in Bathurst, K93 FM in Grand Falls and CJ104 FM in Woodstock.
“Today the Maritime community showed an incredible outpouring of support,” said Jennifer Gillivan, President & CEO of the IWK Foundation. “IWK Radiothon donors can feel confident that their gifts go to support the most urgent care needs of the IWK which could include advanced technology, research, improved facilities and up-to-date equipment.”
This year, the IWK Radiothon raised funds to help support the purchase of new Powermatic examination tables for the IWK’s Orthopedic Clinic as well as the most urgent priority needs of the IWK Health Centre– like the equipment that helped diagnose and treat seven year old Cooper Thornton.
In September 2016 then six-year old Cooper Thornton, faced the fight of his life. He was diagnosed with a brain tumour and underwent a life-saving 18-hour surgery at the IWK. Today, Cooper, who is affectionately known as “Super Cooper,” is doing great thanks to the specialized care he receives at the IWK.
“The powerful stories we share, like that of Cooper Thronton, resonate with our listeners because they show how important the IWK is to all Maritimers,” said Trent McGrath, General Manager, Bell Media Radio Atlantic & CTV Atlantic. “The continued support we see from across Nova Scotia truly demonstrates the far-reaching impact of the IWK in our province and region.”
Donations can still be made to the IWK Radiothon by calling 1-800-595-2266 or by visiting www.iwkfoundation.org/radiothon.
