Mya Williamson

Mya is this year’s 2018 Change Challenge Hero. She began fundraising for the IWK when she was three years old when she brought all of her piggy bank money down to the live Radiothon broadcast.

“Just hearing the Radiothon and being an IWK patient since I was born, I knew they helped me and I just wanted to give back in any possible way," explains Mya.

Over the last nine years, she has raised over $7,000 for the IWK and has a goal to donate $250,000 to the IWK over her lifetime!

Born with a kidney disease, Mya has been an IWK patient since she was three months of age.

But in January 2013, when she was seven-years-old, her family would begin treatment at the IWK for a completely different diagnosis: a brain tumor.

Mya was diagnosed with a diagnosed with a craniopharyngioma - a non-cancerous brain tumour on the pituitary gland. Neurosurgeons at the IWK performed surgery to remove the growth. Mya’s pituitary gland was damaged as a result of her tumour, and she requires a variety of daily hormone treatments.

Excellence is in your hands.
