When young Mackenzie bumped her head during a bout of the flu, the virus started to affect her body in an unusual way. As time went on, the symptoms of her flu infection seemed to worsen so her father brought her to the emergency department at the Georges Dumont Hospital in Moncton, NB.

In 2012 when Lauren began high school in her hometown of Moncton, NB, she started to experience symptoms of Selective Mutism (SM), an anxiety disorder that left her unable to speak in specific situations. Soon, Lauren’s SM progressed to the point where she could only speak at home.

Then two years of age, Madeline was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and would need to travel to the IWK Health Centre immediately for further testing and to start treatment.

In early July 2016, a fall off a bleacher landed five-year old Ella Elkins, then of Port aux Basques, Newfoundland, in her local hospital. She was rushed to the Janeway Hospital in St. John’s with what appeared to be a brain hemorrhage.

In early 2014, Kristen Brown of Fredericton, New Brunswick was pregnant with twins – a boy and a girl. During her 18-week ultrasound an issue was detected with her unborn son Asher’s heart.

On September 14, 2016 the IWK Foundation celebrated the outstanding generosity of UPS Canada who presented a donation of $130,470 for the IWK’s redevelopment of its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
