One-Time Gift - IWK Foundation

Making a gift today will help ensure Maritime children, like Johnny, can depend on the world-class care at the IWK when they need it most.

When Johnny was just 16-months-old he came down with the flu. His parents monitored his symptoms closely, expecting him to get better. Instead, his symptoms quickly became urgent. He was airlifted to the IWK for specialized care and it was discovered he had contracted MRSA, a type of bacteria resistant to most antibiotics. Johnny’s condition deteriorated. He needed to be intubated, have a feeding tube inserted, and be connected to an ECMO machine, a form of life support that temporarily takes over the work of the lungs and heart. After incredible care and a total of 102 days at the IWK, Johnny returned home and continues to grow strong and dream big.
