Invest in Women: Innovation

Recent research from McKinsey Health Institute shows that investing in women’s health innovation represents a $37-billion opportunity in Canada. In other words, good health for women isn’t just good for women, it’s good for our economy.

The need: If we want better outcomes for women, we need to invest in innovation designed for women. That means supporting bold ideas, new tools, and scalable solutions that improve women’s health across their lifespan.

Action the IWK Foundation is taking to improve innovation:

  • Many girls and young women experience heavy menstrual bleeding, but it’s often dismissed, misunderstood, or suffered through in silence. Dr. Meghan Pike is a pediatric hematologist-oncologist at IWK Health who is changing that.

She created WeThrive, an app that helps identify heavy menstrual bleeding in adolescents, and her work focuses on greatly improving their quality of life. She is also leading vital work that focuses on fertility preservation options for girls.

Investing in women’s health innovation is not optional. It is essential.
