RBC Race for the Kids

For 42 years, RBC has proudly supported the IWK Foundation, helping ensure women, children, youth and families across the Maritimes have access to specialized care close to home. Their commitment to supporting the IWK began with the very first IWK Telethon for Children in 1984 and continues today through fundraising, volunteering and community engagement. 

One of their major fundraising events is RBC Race for the Kids, a global fundraising initiative introduced in the Maritimes in 2020. Since then, participants have walked, run or wheeled in support of the IWK Foundation. To date, the event has raised more than $400,000 for IWK’s Mental Health and Addictions priorities. 

For Darrin Quigley, Chair of the RBC IWK Fundraising Cabinet and RBC's National Director, Advisor Enablement, Creditor Insurance, helping bring the event to the Maritimes was an easy decision. 

"Almost every family across the Maritimes has a story connected to the IWK, and that's where my passion comes from," says Darrin. "When people hear stories of hope, resilience and lives changed, they naturally want to be part of something bigger than themselves. Sharing those stories is one of the most powerful ways to bring people together and make a real difference for the women, children and families across our region." 

Beyond their tremendous fundraising efforts for the IWK, RBC employees have volunteered hundreds of hours for the IWK Foundation, including during the IWK Telethon, thank-a-thons, and Tim Hortons’ Smile Cookie campaign. 

For RBC, their remarkable dedication to supporting the IWK is driven by the importance of having specialized care in our region. “The IWK is the region’s only hospital dedicated to women, children and youth,” says Darrin. “Families across the Maritimes rely on its specialized care during some of the most difficult and vulnerable moments of their lives.”
