IWK Foundation launches Valentines for the Frontlines

Online fundraising campaign allows community to send Valentines to health care workers at the IWK

Halifax, NS (February 3, 2021) – The IWK Foundation has launched an online fundraising campaign called Valentines for the Frontlines. From February 1-14, 2021, community members will be able to purchase and customize valentines to frontline workers at the IWK through the IWK Foundation’s Care Catalogue. Valentines will cost $5 each.

“Throughout the pandemic, I’ve witnessed the courage of frontline workers at the IWK,” says Jennifer Gillivan, president & CEO, IWK Foundation. “They continue to show up each and every day for the Maritime women and children who are relying on them. Valentines for the Frontlines is a meaningful opportunity for our community to come together once again to let these health care heroes know how much they are respected and appreciated.”

The virtual Valentines purchased through the care catalogue will be displayed at the IWK for staff to read and enjoy. They will also be posted digitally on IWK Health’s intranet.

The power of community coming together and expressions of gratitude to those on the frontlines who have given so much of themselves over these past 11 months has been an important part of the Maritimes’ response to COVID-19.

“Everyone at the IWK has a strong patient and family first focus,” says Dr. Annette Elliott Rose, vice president clinical care & chief nurse executive, IWK Health. “Our teams give their best every day to ensure children, women and families from the Maritimes and beyond get the care they need. It’s been a true boost for morale to hear from people throughout the pandemic about how much those efforts are appreciated.”
