Ten local radio stations come together to raise $242,969 during annual IWK Radiothon

Halifax, NS (February 1, 2019) – Today, listeners of 10 Bell Media-owned radio stations across Nova Scotia and New Brunswick joined together once again to raise an astounding $242,969.30 during the annual IWK Radiothon.

Participating stations included C100 FM and 101.3 Virgin Radio in Halifax; Big Dog 100.9 FM and Cat Country 99.5 FM in Truro; FOX 105 FM, Capital 106.9 FM and KHJ 1260 AM in Fredericton; MAX 104.9 FM in Bathurst, K93 FM in Grand Falls and CJ104 FM in Woodstock.

“The IWK would not be the amazing place we all love without the generosity of Maritimers, like that shown today by IWK Radiothon donors.” said Jennifer Gillivan, President & CEO of the IWK Foundation. “On behalf of the IWK Foundation, thank you to our listeners and our partners at Bell Media for helping to ensure our patients continue to have access to the best and nothing less right here at home in the Maritimes.”

The funds raised through this year’s IWK Radiothon will help support the most urgent priority needs of the IWK including the purchase of surgical telescopes, micro wheelchairs, air/oxygen blenders and infant scales. These pieces of equipment are vital in the care of IWK patients, like Annaliese Delorey.

When Lori Delorey was 31 weeks pregnant, she experienced complications with her pregnancy and she was immediately was airlifted to the IWK. Her daughter Annaliese was born eight and a half week early, weighing only 3.5 pounds. Annaliese was cared for in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), a connection she shares with her mother, Lori, who was also an IWK NICU patient. Their story was just one of many shared over the course of the broadcast.

“It is no surprise that our listeners across Nova Scotia stepped up once again for the IWK,” said Trent McGrath, Vice President and General Manager CTV Atlantic and Bell Media Radio Atlantic. “Year after year, they have shown us that they have a deep desire to support the women and children of the Maritime community. Thank you.” Donations can still be made to the IWK Radiothon by calling 1-800-595-2266 or by visiting www.iwkfoundation.org/radiothon.
