Dorothy and Bill Grant

Dorothy Grant and her husband Bill were devastated when their 11-year-old son David passed away as a result of a rare neurological disease. But today, almost 35 years later, David’s memory lives on at the IWK because of a legacy gift the Grant’s made in his honour.

Donating David’s life savings the family created an endowment called The David Grant Memorial Fund, which exists to this day. Income generated supports the well-being of children with neurological conditions. A donation from the fund is also given to the playroom at the IWK each year to promote comfort and pleasure for patients and families.

The determination to keep David’s memory alive inspired Dorothy and Bill to leave a gift in their will to the IWK as an expression of their love and desire to make a difference to the future of the IWK Health Centre.
