Halifax, NS (October 17, 2019) – Yesterday, the IWK Foundation recognized Atlantic Superstore for raising $260,000 in support of the IWK during its 2019 Give a Little, Help a Lot fundraising campaign. These funds are raised by customers who donate to the IWK at the cash and through additional fundraising initiatives held by store colleagues at individual Atlantic Superstore, No Frills and Your Independent Grocer locations across the Maritimes.
“Our store colleagues and customers throughout the Maritimes are very proud to support the IWK. As our partnership has grown and developed we recognize, more and more, the importance of being able to help the IWK provide world-class care to patients and families from across our region,” says Mark Boudreau, Loblaw Atlantic’s director of corporate affairs.
Atlantic Superstore’s support helps IWK patients like 8-year-old Jeric Mullins who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia just over two years ago. At this stage of treatment, he takes chemotherapy pills at home every day. Once a month he receives a chemotherapy infusion at the IWK and once every three months he receives chemotherapy through a lumbar puncture.
“When you have cancer, some days just aren’t fun, but it’s pretty cool to be able to hang out with people who care about making kids, like me, feel better,” says Jeric. “I want to say a big thank you to Atlantic Superstore for supporting the IWK!”
For 32 years, Atlantic Superstore has been a dedicated supporter of the IWK, raising funds annually to ensure children and families have access to the best equipment, technology and care right here at home in the Maritimes.
“Simply put, the IWK would not be the incredible resource that it is for Maritime women and children without the generous support of organizations like Atlantic Superstore whose team and customers are so passionate about giving back,” says Keely Wallace, Manager, Community & Corporate Giving, IWK Foundation. “Thank you to Atlantic Superstore for wanting the best for patients at the IWK.”
Funds raised by Atlantic Superstore, No Frills and Your Independent Grocer colleagues and customers will support the purchase of priority equipment, which in the past has included surgical equipment, inpatient smart beds, patient monitors and trauma carts.
