Eleven-year-old brothers Ben and Jiesheng first met in an orphanage in China where they formed an undeniable bond. When Jiesheng was adopted by Alicia and Joe Boutilier, it became clear to them that they needed to return to adopt Ben too. Since the boys arrival in Canada they have received care at their local Children’s Miracle Network hospital, the IWK Health Centre.
Diagnosed with scoliosis, Ben’s spinal cord is tethered around his spine restricting movement that will eventually require surgical intervention. Jiesheng has a congenital disorder called Arthrogryposis which means many of his joints are curved. He required 17 weekly casts, along with surgery, to help slowly move his bones in the right direction.
Both brothers love the IWK and are thankful for the care they continue to receive there.
