The IWK is a lifesaver. They saved our son twice. They have a big spot in our hearts.

~Brad and Cherese, Kyden's parents

In January 2015, little Kyden of l'Ardoise, Cape Breton's life hung in the balance as he was brought to the IWK Health Centre via air ambulance. Born with two holes in his heart and an abnormal heart valve, Kyden had his first heart surgery at just four months old. For the second time in less than a year the team in the Children's Heart Centre worked hard to repair this little boy’s heart and this time, to save his life. Kyden had ups and downs after his second surgery, including suffering a stroke, but he continues to improve every day.

Kyden's second surgery was nerve wrecking because we didn’t know if he was going to make it. Just to have him here means a lot.

~Temeka, Kyden’s sister
