Meet Our Heroes

IWK Heroes

When you give to the IWK Foundation, you are helping to change the lives of the women, children and youth who depend on the IWK.

We are honoured to share the stories of courageous patients, amazing caregivers and generous supporters who know the value of the IWK to the Maritime community.

Meet some of the people who bring the IWK to life every day.

Emily & Katie Reid, IWK patients

Emily & Katie Reid

In June 2020, Whitney and Matthew Reid along with their daughter Julie took the big leap of faith to move across the country from Saskatchewan all the way to Truro, Nova Scotia to take up their responsibilities as the Salvation Army Ministers in their community. Whitney was also expecting twins.

Anabelle Cormier, IWK patient

Anabelle Cormier

At the very start of December 2017, Anabelle Cormier was brought into the world and was seemingly a healthy baby.

Arauco Canada Ltd has been a longstanding supporter of the IWK Foundation, making their first donation twenty-four years ago in 1997.

Bruin Pothier, IWK patient

Bruin Pothier

The Pothier family never expected to welcome their third child into the world during a global pandemic. They also never expected that their baby boy would require life-saving care in the IWK’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Canon Beazley, IWK Patient

Canon Beazley

Canon’s journey with the IWK began in March 2021. Eleven-year-old Canon was experiencing severe stomach pain, so his parents decided to take him to the IWK. Over the next two days Canon underwent many tests and scans, where a mass was found on one of his kidneys.
