At 18 months old, Eva Lee’s behavior changed virtually overnight.

She stopped talking, stopped using utensils and started using her hands to eat. Her parents initially thought her behavior was out of jealousy toward her new sibling, but her symptoms continued to worsen.

In early July 2016, a fall off a bleacher landed five-year old Ella Elkins, then of Port aux Basques, Newfoundland, in her local hospital. She was rushed to the Janeway Hospital in St. John’s with what appeared to be a brain hemorrhage.
